MAGISTRATES COURT WORK

All work carried out for, or at, Magistrates Court hearings will be conducted by a solicitor with at least 8 years’ experience or by a suitably qualified barrister. The work is supervised by solicitors with over 20 years post qualification experience of criminal litigation.

Fees are based on an underlying rate of £300 + Vat per hour, with travel and waiting time charged at £150 + Vat. Travel disbursements are charged at cost or 45p per mile.

Case preparation carried out by an experienced paralegal is charged at the rate of £180 + Vat.

We offer an initial 45 minute consultation for £120 + Vat at which the issues, including the cost/benefit of representation, can be discussed. In most cases we are happy to agree fixed fees for particular stages of any case.

For example, attending court for a guilty plea to a straight forward motoring case in a local Court would cost from £500 + Vat.

A guilty plea and sentence to a non-motoring offence dealt with at one hearing in a local court would cost between £600 – £750 + Vat. If a second hearing was required, costs would typically be £750 – £900 + Vat.

These prices would include all time engaged in obtaining and considering case papers, travelling to, and at court and related correspondence. Any meetings over and above the initial 45 minute consultation may incur a further fee.
